| Labour Market Opinion applications from employers who qualify to participate in the pilot (Expedited LMO) will be processed within five days of Service Canada having received them when all the information requested is provided. Service Canada expanded the number of occupations which is eligible for E-LMO to 33 occupations on January 14th 2008. The occupations under E-LMO are: Carpenters (Journeyman/Woman), Civil Engineers, Commercial Janitors, Caretakers, Construction Labourers Crane Operators(Journeyman/Woman), Delivery Drivers, Dental Technicians, Electrical & Electronics Engineers, Food and Beverage Servers, Food Counter Attendants, Food Service Supervisors, Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics, Hotel Front Desk Clerks, Hotel and Hospitality Room Attendants, Industrial Electricians, Industrial Meat Cutters, Ironworkers, Manufacturing & Processing Labourers, Mechanical Engineers, Mechanical Engineering Technologists, Petroleum Engineers, Pharmacists, Registered Nurses, Residential Cleaning and Support Workers, Retail Salespersons and Sales Clerks, Roofers, Ski and Snowboard Instructors, Specialized Cleaners Steamfitters, Pipefitters, Surveyor Helpers, Tour and Travel Guides, Welders and Machinists. |

There were organized two meetings in Usti nad Labem and Liberec during Jerry Jelinek’s last visit in the Czech Republic at the beginning of December 2007. Jerry Jelinek explained in his presentation the current situation about working opportunities in Canada. |

The Consuls of Thailand, the Philippines and the Czech Republic met with Honorable Iris Evans to discus some issues regarding immigration of skilled workers to Alberta. The discussion mainly focused on speeding up the process of passing LMOs (Labor Market Opinions) and the extension of the expedited LMOs which now include only a few occupations. It also focused on the simplification of the process for obtaining certification for the trades occupations and extension of time available for trades occupations to become certified from 6 months to 1 year. |

There was a large turnout at the CASLAWIA presentation in Liberec. The audience of over 125 people watched a small movie about Alberta and listened to Jerry Jelinek's presentation about working and living in Alberta. CASLAWIA's is excited to announce that it will be conducting an information presentation in Liberec, Czech Republic. Along with the Governor of the Liberec Region Petr Skokan, Jerry Jelinek will be discussing the opportunities available for the Czech skilled worker in Alberta. The presentation is scheduled for December 1, 2006 at 5:00pm at the Krajskeho. Everybody is welcome. |

CASLAWIA's new website allows for online registration and account information. Users can now check on the progress of their application online. Also, the new Links and FAQ page have lots of information about the immigration process. |

The CASLAWIA booth at The Calgary Petroleum Show was busy with potential employers asking questions and taking information booklets. Many big employers showed enthusiasm with the idea of hiring Czech-Slovak workers. |

The Mayor of Edmonton Alberta discussed the shortage of skilled labours in Alberta. The discussion's focus was on methods of simplyfying the emmigration process to make it easier to import foreign workers. |

The main discussion was regarding methods of bringing skilled labor from the Czech Republic to Alberta. By the end of the meeting the benefits of this arangement where obvious to everybody.
